Hello  ¡ Hola !

I enjoy the Spanish land where the communication with people is easy, calm, language and atmosphere make it a very pleasant country to visit.

To begin this step, it's simple, I celebrated my birthday in Hendaye, took rest and here I am on a boat towards Spain, a crossing of 5 minutes with french basques:

I start exploring the país vasco coastline, already knowing a little inland (see previous step). I must say that I am disappointed with the landscape and the people are great. The village of Pasaïa just before San Sebastián / Donostia:

and the albergue (pilgrims hostel) :

In the big city of San Sebastián I walk with two pilgrims, an Austrian and a Dutch, we cross a school group, the children all happy greet us in all the languages they know, it's a real breath of energy and sharing :

I continue along the coast with a simple schedule, morning walks, afternoons nap and bathing. There are some nice waves and a lot of surfers.

The heart is there to celebrate the night of the summer solstice

The night of Saint John in Deba will remain forever in my memory as a very strong moment of sharing and conviviality. Basque dances are dynamic and everyone jumps over the ashes of fire to ward off bad energies.

July is here and the pilgrims are more and more numerous :

I leave quickly the city and in the suburbs, here Portugalete, we can see a ferry bridge, which allows the convoy of foods, cars and people from one bank to another:

Just before this city, I arrive in the Cantabre region :

This weekend of July 9 and 10, I was invited to have a drink by a local hiking club, because I monitored the equipment for the barbecue during 10 minutes.

I stayed yesterday at the well-known hostel Abuelo Peuto, with 74 other pilgrims.

This solidarity hostel carrying many social projects is an initiative born from the heart of an atypical priest aged 78 years today. He speaks of the university of life and the paintings of the hermitage are the testimony of the awareness that passes from servitude to liberation:

Here is the hermitage there are three other paintings that I did not put. I give you what the painter wanted to represent A group of people is a little lost by the realization that they are manipulated, that they have lost contact with nature and that they have two hands, one to receive and one to give. Two groups of pilgrims are painted. In the background, two follow the camino (way of St Jacques) caring only for them and their comforts. The others in the foreground help a wounded black man, the being of light indicates that it is the right path to follow. Everyone is eating at the same table. The same people at the beginning are happy, they are awake, the sun is rising. This is the path of life. ** I finish my stage with nature.
